For local testing purposes, it is possible to just modify the local hosts file http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_(file) . Please note that typically, hosts file configuration does not support wildcards so it would be necessary to add separate entries for each subdomain e.g. account1.example.com, account2.example.com, etc.
